About the Event

Thought Spectrum, LLC.  presents the “Culturally Responsive Institute: Reimagining Leadership and Learning From The Ground Up,”  where educator cohorts will participate in 24 hours of engaged, collaborative, and thoughtful professional development from September 2021-February 2022 delivered in a workshop series. Both administrators and teachers will learn the depth and breadth of culturally responsive education using an applied approach to  leadership, community building, planning, instruction, assessment, and advocacy.  The Culturally Responsive Institute (C.R.I) is designed in two cohorts: (1) school leaders and (2) teachers.  Each cohort will have three sessions specific to their roles and responsibilities that meet the urgency of our time in relationship to responsive education and equity.  In addition to the cohort sessions, participants will engage in whole institute sessions that targets how leaders and teachers collaborate centering excellence and equity in education. Participants will create action plans toward responsive curriculum, instruction, and community.

This regional institute is research-based reflecting the needs, demographics, and demands specific to Lake County and its families. Teachers will be able to consider how instruction works as a transformational set of practices with deeply meaningful approaches to classroom instruction connected to the lives of their students and communities.  Administrators will be able to evaluate how leadership facilitates culturally responsive learning communities and relationships with families and how to use these relationships to address equity, teacher quality, and relationship building.  Opportunities are available for participating schools or districts that register multiple participants to develop action plans for transformation to gain detailed feedback and support beyond the C.R.I. Also, schools or districts can choose to participate in a specialized Racial Literacy Assessment, which assesses teacher comfort, readiness, and needs around discussions of race. This data is used with schools to provide a comprehensive view racial literacy and can be used to develop further support for schools or districts, more broadly.
