About the Event

Can your students spot fake news? Do they know how to evaluate sources for research? Are they aware of how social media works and its impact on their everyday life?

We are immersed in more digital media than any previous generation, making media literacy skills more critical than ever. This workshop will explore media and digital literacy concepts centered around Illinois’ new media literacy mandate for grades 9-12.

Join this session to develop your own media literacy awareness, explore resources and lesson materials, and prepare to teach key concepts to your students so they can safely access, analyze, and create digital media. This session will be interactive as you will experience lessons the way students will - rich with self-reflection, analysis, and discussion.

While media literacy is important for all, this workshop is geared towards middle and high school educators, though upper-elementary teachers may find some resources helpful. Please bring a device (laptop, Chromebook, tablet) to this event.
