THE FACTS ABOUT THE 2014 GED®

TEST

 

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The 2002 Series GED®

test has expired and is no longer available. If you did not

pass the 2002 Series GED® test by December 31, 2013,

you must now begin the testing process with the new

2014 GED® test.

New Fees:

$120.00 ($30 per exam) Pearson Vue & $13.00 Regional

Office of Education (GED Certificate & Office Transcript).

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • New computer-based test released January 2, 2014
  • Registration and scheduling for the test is done online at www.ged.com, but test must be taken at an official Pearson VUE certified Testing Center
  • Tests are available in English and Spanish
  • Scores from previous versions of the GED Test cannot be combined with the 2014 Test scores
  • Scores for subject area are from 100-200. Minimum passing score is 150 for each subject area test
    • Individuals will get most score reports emailed to them within hours
  • Testers must be an Illinois resident for at least 30 days and must be at least 18 years old
    • 17 year olds may test if they provide proof of withdrawal from the last school attended. Proof of withdrawal may be emailed to leann.arsenault@illinois.gov or faxed to 217-558-6700.
  • The High School level Constitution Test is still required to receive an Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate

COSTS

  • Cost of the new computer-based test is $30.00 per subject area x 4 subject areas = $120 complete battery
    • Minimum fee as established by GED Testing Services
    • Individual may select to take one subject at a time
    • Individual will pay online during registration using a debit or credit card
  • After passing the GED Test, individuals may request an Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate and Official Transcript from the Lake County Regional Office of Education
    • The cost is $10.00 for the certificate and $3.00 for the official transcript
    • The Constitution (Illinois, US, and Flag) is still a requirement and is administered at no cost
