Attendance & Truancy Division Staff

Monika Schwander-Lottermoser, Director

Monika has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology and a Master's Degree in Social Work. In addition to working with students on their attendance, one of Monika's primary responsibilities is to represent the office in the event that a student is referred to court.

Mey Spencer, Bilingual Outreach Specialist

Ms. Spencer has a BA from the Instituto Nacional in El Salvador and a certification from Evantson National College in Social Work. Mey is fluent in English and Spanish. Mey returned to the Attendance & Truancy Division in November, 2007 after a four year hiatus in Florida. Prior to that, she worked with the Attendance & Truancy Division for five years.

Wendy Gill, Outreach Specialist

Wendy has a Bachelor's degree in Classics from the Texas Tech University. After many years of teaching high school Latin, Wendy joined the Attendance & Truancy Division of the Lake County Regional Office of Education in 2014. In the Spring of 2014, she was employed by ATD as the Program Director of "Soaring with SAVE." Soaring with SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) was a program funded by the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) to do a 21st Century Community Learning Center after-school model program at Neal Math & Science Academy in North Chicago.

John Turner, Outreach Specialist

John has a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of San Diego and a M. A. T. in Secondary Education from National Louis University. John previously served in the military, and is a volunter for the NJROTC program at North Chicago High School. He has been with ATD since August, 2014. In addition to working with students regarding their attendance, John will assume the roll of the SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Advisor at North Chicago High School and Neal Math & Science Academy (The SAVE program administered by ATD is funded by North Chicago District 187).

Alexis Rosen, Outreach Specialist, Part time

Alexis joined ATD in September, 2014. She graduated in May 2014 from University of Illinois at Chicago with a Master's degree in Social Work. She also has a Bachelors of Social Work from Northeastern Illinois University and holds an endorsement in School Social Work (type 73).

Jennie Lozano, Intern

Jennie is a Senior at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, working on a Bachelor's in Social Work. She will be completing her yearlong internship at the Attendance & Truancy Division and will be working alongside an Outreach Specialist to provide the same services to assist our Lake County students in achieving their attendance goals. In addition, Jennie will be leading attendance groups at select schools.

Andrea Kowitz, Administrative Assistant

Andrea has been with the office since May 2000. In addition to creating and maintaining the student database, some responsibilities include: hosting the annual Attendance Week competition, assisting with the grant-writing process, Accounts Payable, and overseeing the Budget. She is a graduate from Ashford University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Education. Ms. Kowitz is also currently a graduate student of Concordia University Chicago for Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
