The Technical Crash Investigation Unit responds as a team to calls from the Highway Patrol Division when a traffic crash involves a fatality, serious bodily harm or disfigurement or if the dynamics of the crash are beyond the scope of what the Deputy on the scene manages.
In 2013, the Technical Crash Investigation Unit responded to 31 incidents ranging from cars, motorcycles, trucks, pedestrians, trains and a school bus. Members of the Unit have embraced the team concept of Crash Investigations. The primary Investigator arrives and assesses needs for additional personnel and equipment. Trained and equipped with the latest technology, the primary investigator provides members the ability to assess, reconstruct and respond to a crash scene with professionalism and proficiency.
